stopped state

About this tag
The stopped state tag covers discussions about Windows services entering a stopped state, often logged as Event ID 7036 with source Service Control Manager. Users seek to monitor specific services, such as third-party application services, and receive alerts when they stop unexpectedly. Common issues include the Computer Browser service repeatedly stopping and starting, which can disrupt internet connectivity and DNS resolution. Troubleshooting involves configuring Task Scheduler to trigger email alerts on service state changes, though this may generate alerts for multiple services. The tag is relevant for Windows system administrators and users managing service reliability and event log monitoring.
