timeout settings
About this tag
Discussions on WindowsForum.com about timeout settings cover power management and system behavior in Windows 7 and later versions. Common topics include configuring display turn-off timers, HDD spin-down timeout, sleep mode, and automatic logout after inactivity. Users report issues such as display turning off despite different power settings, computer failing to sleep unless downloading, and start menu or action center becoming unresponsive after display timeout. Troubleshooting often involves adjusting power plan settings, disabling HDD timeout to address high CPU usage, and ensuring timeout settings do not interfere with normal system operation.
I never had the high Kernel & System CPU usage, but I saw this issue on a friend's computer.
The process with PID 4 had a high CPU usage. But that issue solved itself.
However, how is disabling HDD timeout (spin down after ** minutes) meant to solve the CPU usage issue? How is it related?
I have set the display to turn off after 5 minutes if there's no activity on my computer, but when I come back to use my computer after a while I noticed that the start menu and action center doesn't open when I click on them. Any ideas why?
W7HP edition. Sometimes my computer will go to sleep, but most of the time it won't. The only time it will guarantee to go to sleep, is if I am downloading a large file. If I am downloading, 100% of the time, it will go to sleep.
Is there a setting somewhere, that will tell the computer to not...
I'm using Windows 7 x64.
No matter what I set the power settings to, the display turns off after 5 minutes, and moving the mouse turns it on.
Is anyone else experiencing this problem?
