unarchiving
About this tag
Unarchiving on Windows involves extracting files from compressed archives like .zip and .rar. A common issue is garbled Japanese file names inside archives, which can occur even with the Japanese language pack installed. This problem affects both third-party tools like WinRAR and Windows' native unarchiving utility. Users may find that the archive's own name displays correctly, but internal file names become corrupted. Troubleshooting steps include adjusting language priority settings, though this may not always resolve the issue. The community discusses solutions for proper unarchiving of multilingual content on Windows 8 and later versions.
