About this tag
The video cd tag on WindowsForum.com collects discussion of Video CDs, the late-1990s MPEG-1 disc format, and what happens when you try to archive them on modern Windows. The main thread documents a reported Explorer bug where copying VCD contents can stall and leave the Windows shell partly broken until a full reboot, said to affect both Windows 10 and Windows 11 and possibly tied to early 2023 updates. The report is one user's investigation, and Microsoft has not acknowledged it. The practical takeaway for anyone digitizing old media is to avoid dragging VCD files straight into File Explorer on a PC with unsaved work.
