Windows 7 Forums uses Paragon Backup & Recovery 10 to demonstrate why it is always better to perform a bare-metal backup, as opposed to a live backup using Windows Backup or other products. This demo explains how to perform a bare-metal backup and restore in a two part series.

Does it need to format or be on a clean drive? Or can I do it and it will make a file or directory despite there being other data on there... kinda...

The Inspiron has 280GB of which 85 are free.
The Seagate has 465GB with 445GB free.
Several times I have attempted to back up the Inspiron and so far have been unsuccessful.

Short story: Try to run Windows 7 Backup (x64) and get a blank page with the helpful message "page missing". Acronis is responsible, but I want to know how to get it back.

I was contemplating using a Raid 0 array as my primary C: drive with OS. I understand all the issues with that and do regular daily backups. I used to use Acronis which had no trouble with a raid array. But on this new build I was wondering if the built in backup tools would be able to image and...

Hi,
I tried backing up last night. Took 3 hours but I digress.
When it finished it stated it didn\t complete properly. BUT there are two files on my external drive. One named after my computer but says it is empty (treated as a folder). The other file says MediaID.bin 0 kb.
When I check...
I've run out of space on my 320G "C" drive, and would like to add a second identical hard drive in a RAID 0 array on my Gigabyte EP45-DQ6 motherboard to improve both speed and space. This, of course, means wiping out the existing OS, and I don't want to do a fresh install if I can avoid it.

I have just upgraded to Windows 7 from Vista Business.
It had to be a clean install so I backed up Vista and my files to an external hard drive using Windows Backup.

Hi,
I recently installed Windows 7 home premium 64-bits. I upgraded it from a Windows vista business 32-bits. That was not trivial, but it worked fine. Problems came when a driver "classpnp.sys" made the system halt. Repair programs did not work until I copied another file over the driver and a...

Is there any way to restore a system image to a new SMALLER drive than that from which it was created, even though the image size is much smaller than the new drive? According to the help file it's not possible. Is there a work around?
Maybe I could copy the files across then do a system...
Is there a way I can have the "Create system image" done daily. say as a scheduled task? I feel much more comfortable with that instead of the regular backup.
