About this tag
Windows error code 117 is associated with a TDR (Timeout, Detection, and Recovery) reset, where the system hangs, goes black, and then recovers with a message that a problem caused hardware to stop working. This error often occurs during graphics-intensive tasks like gaming, even on systems with high-end components such as an Intel Core i9-12900K and an MSI RTX 5080. Common troubleshooting steps include running SFC /Scannow, performing RAM tests, and disabling XMP for DDR5 memory to rule out instability. Users experiencing this error should check for driver issues, power supply adequacy, and recent system changes.
