workplace settings

About this tag
Discussions tagged with workplace settings on WindowsForum.com focus on user profile migration challenges when transitioning from on-premises Active Directory or local accounts to Azure AD (Microsoft Entra ID). A recurring theme is the loss of personalized workplace configurations—such as desktop layout, application settings, and shortcuts—after joining a PC to Azure AD, even when the same username is used. Users report that this behavior, described by some consultants as 'by design,' can cause significant disruption and frustration. The tag covers practical troubleshooting for preserving or transferring user profiles, including leveraging OneDrive for data but noting that years of custom workplace settings may still be lost. The content reflects real-world enterprise IT scenarios involving Windows, Microsoft 365, and hybrid identity management.
