This video is a complete playthrough of Episode 2, titled "Harbingers of NEVEC," from Lost Planet 2. It kicks off around 02:15 with an underwater deployment where Task Force First Descent swims through dark waters into enemy territory before surfacing at an industrial dock. From there, the team moves into the narrow alleyways and slums of Central City, battling Carpetbagger insurgents and enemy Vital Suits while securing data posts to restore satellite tracking and maintain squad respawns.
The mission escalates around 43:30 when a massive Category G Akrid unexpectedly attacks the industrial district right as NEVEC attempts to secure a massive railway gun. The ensuing boss battle forces players to dodge sweeping claw attacks and fire directly into the monster's glowing thermal energy weak points using heavy gatling guns and mech weaponry. Finally, at 53:15, a closing cutscene reveals a bleak twist: the soldiers of First Descent are expendable clones derived from the rebel Ivan Solotov, deliberately assigned to high-risk suicide missions by NEVEC command.
It is a great display of Capcom's classic 2010 action design, particularly showing off how Lost Planet 2 managed co-op squad mechanics and multi-stage boss encounters. The scale of the Category G Akrid fight still holds up well visually, and the subtle story development regarding the clone task force adds a compelling narrative layer to the chaotic third-person shooting.
