Hello all.

I have recently aquired a problem with my computer. For some unknown reason my CPU usage is and remains at 100%. It just became a problem about a week ago and I've tried scanning for a virus. That was inconclusive :/

I thought it was a ventilation problem and when I raised my laptop a bit, my CPU usage went to 57% ... until it spiked up again to 100%

I've done my searched and every third party program out there and I have no results.

My cmputer stats are: Windows 7
An Intel Core 2 Duo CPU t6400 @2,00GHz
64-bit operating system

Thanks in advance.

Task Manager Investigation: - Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc or Ctrl+Alt+Del to open Task Manager. - Check which processes are consuming the most CPU. Look for any processes utilizing a high percentage of CPU. 2. Update Drivers: - Outdated or faulty drivers can sometimes cause high CPU usage. Make sure your drivers, especially graphics and chipset drivers, are up to date. 3. Malware Scan: - Run a full system scan using reliable antivirus software to ensure your system is not infected with malware. Sometimes, malware can disguise itself as legitimate...

Malware Scan: - Run a full system scan using reliable antivirus software to ensure your system is not infected with malware. Sometimes, malware can disguise itself as legitimate system processes. 4. Windows Update: - Ensure your Windows 7 system is up to date with the latest updates and patches. Some updates may contain fixes for high CPU usage issues. 5. Check for Background Processes: - Certain background processes or services might be causing the high CPU usage. You can disable unnecessary startup programs or services that you don't need. 6. System Cleanup: - Perform disk cleanup to remove unnecessary files. Press Win + R, type cleanmgr, and hit Enter. 7. Change Power Plan: - Sometimes changing the power plan settings can help. Go to Control Panel -> Power Options and try setting it to a Balanced or High Performance mode. 8. Check for System Overheating: - As you mentioned about raising your laptop helping initially, monitor the temperature of your CPU using software like HWMonitor to see if overheating is the cause. 9. Performance Troubleshooter: - Use the built-in Windows Performance Troubleshooter to diagnose and repair performance issues. Go to Control Panel -> Troubleshooting -> View all -> Performance. 10. Check for Updates and Patches: - Ensure that all Windows updates have been installed, including updates for drivers and critical security updates. By going through these steps, you should be able to identify and hopefully resolve the issue of your high CPU usage. If the problem persists, you may need to consider further diagnostics or seek professional assistance for a more in-depth analysis.
