Futuremark has released a new version of the 3DMark graphical benchmark. It contains DirectX 9, 10 and 11-based benchmarks, and requires Windows Vista, 7 or 8 to run. There is a free Basic Edition of 3DMark available.

The new 3DMark includes everything you need to benchmark your hardware. With three all new tests you can bench everything from tablets and notebooks to the latest high-end gaming desktops. It's the most powerful and flexible 3DMark we've ever created.

Three New Benchmark Tests

Fire Strike - For high performance gaming PCs
Use Fire Strike to test the performance of dedicated gaming PCs, or use the Fire Strike Extreme preset for high-end systems with multiple GPUs. Fire Strike uses a multi-threaded DirectX 11 engine to test DirectX hardware.
Cloud Gate - For notebooks and home PCs
Use Cloud Gate to test the performance of notebooks and typical home PCs. Cloud Gate uses a DirectX 11 engine limited to Direct3D feature level 10, making it suitable for testing DirectX 10 compatible hardware.
Ice Storm - For tablets and entry-level PCs
Use Ice Storm to test the performance of your Windows tablet, ultra-portable notebook or entry-level PC. Ice Storm uses a DirectX 11 engine limited to Direct3D feature level 9, making it the ideal benchmark for modern portable devices targeting that feature level. Futuremark has released a 1.1.0 Patch for the latest version of the 3DMark benchmark. The patch adds a new Ice Storm Extreme test, and fixes issues on systems with multiple GPUs.

Futuremark has released a 1.2.250 Patch for the latest version of the 3DMark benchmark. The patch adds a new Ice Storm Unlimited test, improves GPU hardware detection, and fixes the display of clock speeds and temps on performance graphs.

Please read the important note from NVIDIA below about driver compatibility.

Every single 3DMark user - more than a million and counting - will get Sky Diver as a free update. For new users, Sky Diver is unlocked and ready to use in all editions of 3DMark. And for a limited time, you can buy 3DMark Advanced Edition, which includes more tests, custom settings and other features, from Steam for only $9.99.

Sky Diver is a new DirectX 11 benchmark test for gaming laptops and mid-range PCs. It's ideal for testing mainstream graphics cards, mobile GPUs, integrated graphics and other systems that cannot achieve double-digit frame rates in the more demanding Fire Strike test.

Together, Sky Diver and Fire Strike let you test the full range of DirectX 11 graphics hardware. Fire Strike is equivalent to testing a system with a modern DirectX 11 game on ultra-high settings. Sky Diver is more like running a game on normal settings. As a general guide:

  • If a system scores less than 2800 in Fire Strike you should run Sky Diver.
  • If a system scores more than 12000 in Sky Diver, you should run Fire Strike.
Please note that Sky Diver and Fire Strike scores are not directly comparable.

3DMark Sky Diver benchmark tests in brief
Sky Diver includes a Demo, two Graphics tests, a Physics test and a Combined test. The Graphics tests measure GPU performance, the Physics test measures CPU performance, and the Combined test stresses both GPU and CPU. The Demo does not affect the score.

Graphics test 1 focuses on tessellation and uses a forward lighting method. Graphics test 2 focuses on pixel processing and uses compute shader-based deferred tiled lighting.

The Physics test introduces a new approach that extends the performance range for which the test is relevant. The test runs through four levels of work starting with the lightest and continuing to the heaviest unless the frame rate drops below a minimum threshold.

The Combined test contains both graphics workloads and physics simulations to stress the CPU and GPU. The test uses a compute shader-based deferred tiled lighting method.

An important note from NVIDIA about driver compatibility
"While testing the 3DMark Sky Diver benchmark, NVIDIA discovered an issue where some of their GPU configurations would render a black screen during benchmarking. NVIDIA has since solved the issue for these configurations and will be including the fix with their next driver installment coming early next week. In the meantime, if you experience this issue with your configuration, please use the 335.23 WHQL driver, available from both NVIDIA.com and GeForce.com."

To answer those questions, we've created Fire Strike Ultra, the world's first 4K Ultra HD benchmark, available now in 3DMark Advanced Edition and 3DMark Professional Edition. Sorry Basic Edition users, you'll need to upgrade if you want to run Fire Strike Ultra.

Fire Strike Ultra renders the test content at 3840 x 2160 (4K Ultra HD) before scaling the output to your PC's display resolution. This means you don't need a 4K monitor to run Fire Strike Ultra, though you will need a GPU with at least 3 GB of dedicated memory.

You will be able to search for and compare Fire Strike Ultra scores for different hardware configurations on our website. And naturally, there's a dedicated Fire Strike Ultra leaderboard in the Futuremark Hall of Fame.

Futuremark has released a 1.4.780 Patch for the latest version of the 3DMark benchmark. This version contains bug fixes.
 
Futuremark has released a 1.4.828 Patch for the latest version of the 3DMark benchmark. The patch updates the SystemInfo module, reduces hardware monitoring overhead, hides the Product key on the Help tab by default, and contains bug fixes.
 
3DMark has now updated with a Dx12 benchmark although you'll need a machine that is DX12 capable and running Windows Preview 10041:
Games make thousands of draw calls per frame, but each one creates performance-limiting overhead for the CPU. APIs with less overhead can handle more draw calls and produce richer visuals. The 3DMark API Overhead feature test is the world's first independent test for comparing the performance of DirectX 12, Mantle, and DirectX 11. Futuremarks new DX12 benchmark is now available in 3DMark version 2.1.2852

3DMARK UPDATE DECEMBER 15, 2016
What's new in 3DMark 2.2.3509
This update fixes a GUI issue that resulted in marginally lower than expected scores when starting a test from the Benchmark Details screen in 3DMark versions 2.1.2852 and later. Benchmark runs started from the Home screen or the Command Line were not affected.

It is normal for 3DMark scores to vary by up to 3% between runs since there are factors in a modern, multitasking operating system that cannot be completely controlled.

With this update, overall scores are expected to increase by up to 0.3%. Scores from the Physics and CPU parts of benchmark tests may improve by up to 2.5%. Scores from this version of 3DMark are consistent with results from previous versions that did not have the GUI issue.

Apologies for not posting this update sooner.
