Hi All,

Hope someone can HELP!!!

I ran the sfc /scannow this morning because I was having trouble installing a Windows 7 update. Right after it finished I rebooted and when the desktop came up my icons where there but there were no descriptions under them, also all program menus were gone. So if I right click on any icon the little menu doesn't pop up, if I click on "Start" I get a little white box with two little arrows in it.

Please HELP....Thanks

Oh, and same in safe mode...no descriptions on icons or menus..

It seems like the System File Checker (sfc /scannow) scan might have caused some issues with your system, resulting in missing icon descriptions and program menus. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve this issue:

Troubleshooting Steps:

  1. Reboot Your Computer: Sometimes a simple reboot can resolve minor system display issues.
  2. Check for Windows Updates: Make sure your system is up to date with the latest Windows updates that could potentially fix any system file corruption.
  3. Check Icon and Text Settings:
    • Right-click on the desktop and select "View."
    • Make sure that "Show desktop icons" is checked.
    []Run System Restore:
    • If the issue persists, you can...

    • If the issue persists, you can try using System Restore to revert your system to a point before running the sfc /scannow command.

]Check for Malware: Run a full system scan using your antivirus software to rule out any malware causing the issue. []Check System Font Settings:
    • Navigate to Control Panel > Appearance and Personalization > Display.
    • Check the settings for "Change font size" and "Set custom text size (DPI)."
    [
]Create a New User Account: Create a new user account to see if the issue is specific to your user profile.

    Additional Information:

    • It's possible that the sfc /scannow command may have repaired or modified system files that are crucial for the correct display of icons and menus.
    • If none of the above steps resolve the issue, you may need to consider further troubleshooting or system repair options.
    • Windows 7 is no longer supported by Microsoft, so it's recommended to consider upgrading to a more recent version of Windows for better security and support.
Try these steps and let me know if you need further assistance or if you have any updates on the issue.
