Windows 7 autochk.exe error?

Bear with me, I'm new here.

Running Windows 7 RTM.

autochk.exe runs and then gives an error about a corrupt disk and a long error number which I don't know how to capture. Windows boots after a few seconds.

The error message says to restore to a previous setting but gives no hint about software that might have caused the error.

Try System Restore. Try the latest restore point and if that doesn't fix it try the one before that til you find the right one. System restore sets restore points before a software is installed and labels them as such.
