Windows 10 Backup Nightmare

I am using a backup software and after a while one of the external hard drives disappears and Windows cannot locate it. Bizarre.

How old is the external drive and have you tested it?

I would assume the usb port just turned itself off

The HDD which is given me a lot of trouble is Seagate and is about 5 years. The other one is new. As you said, it could be the HDD. I will check the HDD.

I would run a SMART check on it via CrystalDiskInfo, see if it predicts failure. That being said.. Seagate drives are the ones we see fail the most, and I avoid them like the plague.

HGST drives from what I've read tend to last the longest. I'm partial to Samsung, HGST and Western Digital drives personally.

chkdsk doesn't do smart tests and does only basic checks for bad sectors, you still will want to run a drive fitness test on the disk to make sure it is healthy.

How can I patch C5 and 05 so that I can use Goodsync to copy the failing HDD to a new one? If I copy faulty HDD to the new one by normal Windows Explorer it takes ages.

? the manufacturer usually in that state former version of what was originally intended to be recorded, ie Win version?

There are lots of tools. You can try the built-in tool robocopy it usually does a good job or try terracopy or roadkills unstoppable copier.
