Hi all. I recently installed a new SATA Sony Optiarc DVD-RW drive (Model AD-7280S-0B) to replace an older IDE drive, and since its install I have experienced two BSoDs within 10 minutes of booting with the same STOP error both times; 0x0000001E. Attached the the two .DMP files that were created. Should I also attach screenshots of CPU-Z tabs? I haven't had a BSoD since unplugging the drive to seek help. I looked for drivers to download but Sony's website says my model's drivers are only available via Windows Update.

Hi Haplo and Welcome to The Forum.
    Thankyou.

    STOP 0x0000001E: KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED
    Usual causes:
Device driver, hardware, System service, compatibility, Remote control programs, memory, BIOS.

Your latest dump file lists Abyssus.sys as the probable cause. This is a Razer Abyssus file.
Old and incompatible drivers can and do cause issues with Windows 7, often giving false error codes. Random stop codes can often indicate hardware issues.

    As a Priority:

    Abyssus.sys Fri Oct 30 02:53:48 2009 Update. Razer Abyssus

pcouffin.sys Tue Dec 05 14:39:30 2006 PCouffin is part of VSO software, related to CD/DVD burning software and has known issues with Windows 7. Update or Uninstall your current CD/DVD burning software.

sptd.sys Sun Mar 22 12:35:35 2009 The sptd.sys driver is notorious for causing BSOD's with Windows 7. It's a driver used and installed along with Daemon Tools and Alcohol 120 which you'll also have to uninstall.
Then use the correct (32bit or 64bit) download from Duplex Secure - Downloads to uninstall the SPTD.SYS driver.
Make sure to select the uninstall button! DO NOT SELECT INSTALL!!

    Virtual Drives
Some alternatives to DT/Alcohol for drive emulation that do not use SPTD.SYS (In no order).
DVDFab. Very small at just over 1Mb installed and can emulate up to 18 drives.(My preference).
PowerISO (The program is a trial but the drive emulation is free forever).
    Virtual CloneDrive

Drivers that pre-date Windows 7. Update:

Download and run CPU-Z. Take screenshots**/snips of the Mainboard tab, Memory tab and all the slot #'s under the SPD tab.
Go to Post Reply, click on the Go Advanced button and attach the screenshots**/snips to your post for all the RAM experts to see by using the paper clip you will find on the top toolbar. Do not zip them up.

    KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED (1e)
This is a very common bugcheck. Usually the exception address pinpoints
the driver/function that caused the problem. Always note this address
as well as the link date of the driver/image that contains this address.
    Arguments:
Arg1: ffffffffc0000047, The exception code that was not handled
Arg2: fffff800036ab590, The address that the exception occurred at
    Arg3: 0000000000000000, Parameter 0 of the exception
    Arg4: fffffa80088e1000, Parameter 1 of the exception

Let us know how it goes. If you get further problems with blue screens, attach your new dump files and details and we'll move on from there.

Thanks for the help so far, Elmer. I coincidentally plugged the drive back in and so far haven't had any blue screens yet, but I've done all the updating and/or removal you suggested in your post. Attached now are the all the requested CPU-Z tabs.

Are you currently using either Easy Tune or AMD OverDRive or something similar to overclock your machine.
It looks like something whacky is going on with your RAM, at least as to how it is being seen by CPUz
You have a couple modules / slots showing like you have 667Mhz (1333) memory installed while the other two are showing as 800Mhz (1600) and your timings which I would expect to see somewhere around 9,9,9,24 are 11,11,11,29.
Sorry to butt in, just a question and observation I had to make.
    Regards
    Randy

    Hi Randy,
I don't use AMD Overdrive or Easy Tune, but I did manually set the speed to 800MHz in the BIOS at one point since the default was set to 667MHz (1333), even though it is advertised and labeled as 800MHz (1600) when I purchased it. Apparently it only set one pair (I have two pair of 2x2GB sticks).

EDIT: Elmer, I tried updating to the new NIC drivers but they made me unable to access the internet, even after I tried rolling back the drivers, so I had to do a system restore.

If you return the settings to Auto, and run CPUz what do you see regarding the speed and timings?
And more importantly do you still get BSODs?

I set it back to Auto and now CPU-Z is showing timings of 9-9-9-24. However, the first two SPD screens still show 667MHz and the second two still show 800MHz.

I'm not getting BSODs anymore (haven't been for a while).

Perhaps I spoke too soon... attached is a dump file for a BSoD I just experienced. It may be completely unrelated.

Your latest dump file lists Pool_Corruption as the probable cause which usually indicates bad drivers.
Old and incompatible drivers can and do cause issues with Windows 7.

    As a Priority:

All these notorious, old or outdated drivers are still present and need dealing with. Links above.

All the driver fixing was negated the first time because I had to do a System Restore in order to access the internet again. This time around, I once again can't access the internet. Could it possibly be because I deleted jswpslwfx.sys, even though that file is for a wireless adapter(and I'm using a wired connection currently)? I get the following error when I diagnose the problem with the onboard adapter:

There might be a problem with the driver for the Local Area Connection 4 adapter Detected
Windows couldn't automatically bind the IP protocol stack to the network adapter.

    Code:

Is it trying to use the above-listed (old) file with the two new ones I downloaded/updated?

P.S. Neither my CloneDrive nor my actual Sony DVD-RW drive are appearing in My Computer now; I suspect it is because I removed sptd.sys,

It may well be, you shouldn't delete drivers haphazardly, it needed updating. If you are going to delete drivers its always safer to change the file extension from .sys to say, .bak. This will break the driver and prevent it from running after the next reboot. Once you've established that having that driver in a none running state hasn't caused any adverse side effects, that is when it's safe to delete them.

Which CloneDrive program? You should've uninstalled the program first and then removed the sptd driver. Why your main CD/DVD drive has disappeared I'm unsure but you may want to go to the Disk Manager to see if (a) The drive shows there. (b) It has a drive letter.

The internet access issue appears to be fixed; I'm going to guess it was because I ran the uninstaller for my wireless USB adapter (which was actually NETGEAR, I haven't installed any D-Link software). I had been manually deleting some .sys files because, for example, the BioStar file was utterly useless; it is for a BioStar motherboard and I now use a Gigabyte motherboard. Regardless I will be more careful and see if I can't uninstall it via the Programs and Features screen first.

As for the CloneDrive program I use, I use VirtualCloneDrive from ElaborateBytes. Since my internet is working again I'll try uninstalling VCD and redownloading/installing it.

Coincidentally, and I know this is the wrong section ask about it, but my Administrative Tools folder is empty... anyone know how I can restore it (to access all the stuff like Partition Manager, etc.). And as for checking in Disk Manager, my drive doesn't appear there, so I'll open up my case to make sure the SATA cables are connected.

Thanks, Elmer, that did the trick. I did some sleuthing and downloaded the MicrosoftFixit.dvd.Run.exe from Microsoft's website and it found my drives had a class driver problem and normal driver problem and fixed both of them. They're now appearing normally, so I'm going to reboot and see if everything (internet and DVD/virtual drives) is working alright.
