OK, I ran 1 Memtest86+ pass 2 RAM sticks at a time, the first pair was fine but the second test gave hundreds of thousands of errors. I was able to isolate the faulty stick from the second pair by testing the sticks individually, I'm going to return the faulty stick to the store and get a replacement.

Still wondering why my initial Memtest passes showed no errors at all?

Simple answer is sometimes it takes extensive testing and/or isolating sticks to see errors. Good luck with new RAM when it arrives.
