Windows 7 Cannot Boot, Drive C: has became X: after Blackout

I would be deeply thankful for any guidance on resolving the strange issue:

After a blackout My Dell M6600 laptop cannot boot at all.
I have had a certain Intel messages on missing links, scanning MAC address, etc.

Finally using a repair disk I have found that (I have two drives installed) the boot drive C: has become X: and the other, storage one has taken a letter C:.

I have an acces to cmd via Window 7 repair disk.
Alas I have no idea how to change/revert the boot drive letter to become C: (instead of X.

I will appreciate any helpful suggestions.

Please back up all your important files before doing this (you can do it by using a Linux live-cd/dvd):



I don't believe that your drive letter was modified by the blackout.

Indeed, the problem appeared after a surge. Bizarrely my laptop M6600 start itself every time the is the surge.
I have got two NAS connected to it that had to restarted in the same moment.
This time the laptop could not started as described.

Later today I will furnish you with all detailed Window messages.

I have already tried renaming drives using disparut feature. As far as I recall while using list volume there were two volume listed, one as my secondary disk and the second windows repair CD.

One list disk was used I got disk 0 only listed which seemed to be the main, ssd x:.

Thus I could not managed to assign a letter C to the proper drive.

I have a full Nova Backup Image Backup.
Once restoring I stopped the action not being certain if I could restore all content of my backed C drive on the drive which is present on the list as a disk 0.

When restoring I have two disk listed to be used as a destination.
1. disk 0 - ancient C
2. disk C - ancient secondary one.

Can I perform safely this restore pointing the disk 0 as the destination one?
How about the second one called C at present? Will it take a previous letter?

As far as I know the drive letters are stored in the registry?

The last one:
Could it be possible to use Bootable Partition Manager to fix this?
If yes I would appreciate any guidance.

The letters are logical assignments. While in the recovery console the letter on the OS may change and it's a non-issue. You should be able to determine which one is your OS either my just looking at the file system or from the output of diskpart.

Once you've determined the drive I would run chkdsk on the correct drive as well as run sfc
