Hi Everyone,

I am creating video screen captures of my desktop - for the
purpose of creating software tutorial videos.

My software of choice for
the video creation is called Camtasia Studio. I have used Camtasia before on
many occassions without issue, however I recently updated my computer - to an
i7, and since the update I have not been able to use Camtasia as I would like
to. Camtasia itself still performs video capture however whenever I attempt to
process the Camtasia file (.camrec) and turn it into a DivX AVI the software
freezes.

As I suspected that the DivX codec was at fault I also installed
the CCCP and XVid codecs, however Camtasia freezes regardless of the codec pack
that I use.

To further boost my belief that the codecs are at fault
Camtasia is able to create a "raw" AVI file (which has no codecs) however the
file is entirely too big.

Are there any issues with codecs on an i7? Or
are there any issues with Camtasia 7 on an i7?

Any help will be greatly
appreciated.

Kind Regards,

Davo

Solution
It seems like you are facing issues with Camtasia Studio on your updated i7 computer, specifically related to processing Camtasia files (.camrec) into DivX AVI format. Here are some troubleshooting steps and considerations to address this problem:

Troubleshooting Steps:

  1. Update Software: Ensure that both Camtasia Studio and any codecs you are using are up to date. Sometimes, compatibility issues arise due to outdated software versions.
  2. Codec Configuration: Check the configuration settings within Camtasia for codec usage. Ensure that the settings align with the installed codecs and their specifications.
  3. Codec Conflict: Sometimes, different codecs can conflict with each other, leading to freezing...

  2. Codec Configuration: Check the configuration settings within Camtasia for codec usage. Ensure that the settings align with the installed codecs and their specifications.
  3. Codec Conflict: Sometimes, different codecs can conflict with each other, leading to freezing issues. Try uninstalling unnecessary or conflicting codecs to see if that resolves the problem.
  4. Hardware Acceleration: Camtasia might be utilizing hardware acceleration features of your i7 processor in a way that causes the freezing issue. Try disabling hardware acceleration in Camtasia settings to see if that improves stability.
  5. Codec Alternatives: Instead of using DivX AVI, consider alternative formats for output like H.264 MP4, which is widely supported and offers good compression without compromising quality.
  6. File Size Optimization: If you opt for a "raw" AVI output due to freezing issues with codecs, you can further compress the large AVI file using video editing software or dedicated compression tools.
  7. Check System Resources: Monitor your system's resource usage during the processing to ensure that there are no resource-related issues causing the freezing.

    Compatibility Considerations:

    • Codecs and i7 Compatibility: There are generally no specific issues with codecs on an i7 processor. Compatibility issues are more likely related to software configuration and codec conflicts rather than the processor itself.
    • Camtasia 7 on i7: While Camtasia 7 might not be optimized for newer processors like the i7, it should still function properly. Ensure that any updates or patches for Camtasia 7 are applied to improve compatibility.

      Additional Tips:

    • TechSmith Support: If the issue persists, reaching out to TechSmith's support for Camtasia can provide more tailored assistance and troubleshooting steps. By following these steps and considerations, you should be able to resolve the freezing issue you are experiencing with Camtasia Studio on your updated i7 computer. If you encounter any specific error messages or unusual behaviors, providing more details can help in pinpointing the exact cause of the problem. Let me know if you need further assistance!
