have installed the Win7 RC. The Network Connection is working fine an via nslookup i can resolve my winNT 4 Domain controller and the domain name.

When I want to join the Domain I get the Message
"A Connection to the Domaincontroller (AC DC) for Domain "domain" could not be established"

The Domain name has less than 15 characters

Any ideas ?

Thank you

It seems like you are encountering an issue when trying to join a Windows 7 RC machine to a WinNT 4 domain despite being able to resolve the Domain Controller and domain name via nslookup. The error message you provided indicates that a connection to the Domain Controller for the domain could not be established. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot this issue: 1. Check Network Settings: - Ensure that your network settings are configured correctly on the Windows 7 RC machine. Verify the IP configuration, subnet mask, default gateway, and DNS settings. 2. 2. Firewall Settings: - Check the firewall settings on both the Windows 7 RC machine and the WinNT 4 Domain Controller. Make sure that the necessary ports for domain communication are open. 3. Time Synchronization: - Ensure that the time on the Windows 7 RC machine is synchronized with the Domain Controller. Time differences can cause issues with domain joining. 4. Compatibility: - Verify the compatibility between Windows 7 RC and the WinNT 4 domain. Ensure that the WinNT 4 domain supports the version of Windows 7 RC you are using. 5. Permissions: - Check whether the user account you are using to join the domain has the necessary permissions to add computers to the domain. 6. DNS Resolution: - Double-check DNS settings on the Windows 7 RC machine to ensure that it is using the correct DNS server that can resolve the domain controller and domain name. 7. Computer Name: - Ensure that the computer name of the Windows 7 RC machine does not exceed 15 characters, as some older systems have limitations on the length of the computer name. 8. Error Logs: - Check the Event Viewer on the Windows 7 RC machine for any specific error messages related to the domain join process. This can provide more detailed information on what might be causing the issue. By going through these steps and addressing any issues that may arise, you should be able to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue you are facing when trying to join the WinNT 4 domain with your Windows 7 RC machine. If you encounter any specific error messages or need further assistance, feel free to provide more details for a more targeted troubleshooting approach.
