I just put Windows 7 on my HP dv6707us notebook last night. And everything worked fine with the installation and everything...until I tried getting on the internet. The network here is through wireless. You have to open up the browser and then a login page pops up and you login. I get the login page, but whenever I try to put in my login stuff, it comes back 'Authentication Failed' The taskbar icon says that i'm connected and being able to see the login page generally means that i have connectivity. I have tried other people's login information, just to check if my subscription had expired. And nobody else's worked. I've updated drivers with the drivers off the the HP website. And I don't know what else to do.

It seems like you are experiencing authentication issues while trying to connect to the internet through the wireless network on your HP dv6707us notebook after installing Windows 7. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can follow to try and resolve this issue: 1. Check Network Settings: - Make sure that the wireless adapter on your notebook is properly configured and enabled. - Verify that the wireless network settings (SSID, password, security type) are correctly entered. 2. Restart the Router: - Sometimes, issues with the router can cause authentication problems. Try restarting your wireless router by unplugging it, waiting for a few seconds, and then plugging it back in. 3. Forget and Reconnect to the Network: -...
3. Forget and Reconnect to the Network: - In Windows 7, you can try forgetting the network and then reconnecting to it. This helps in re-establishing the connection with the correct credentials. - Go to Network and Sharing Center > Manage wireless networks, find your network, and choose to forget it. Then try reconnecting. 4. Check Firewall and Security Software: - Temporarily disable any firewall or security software on your notebook that might be interfering with the authentication process. - Ensure that your security software is not blocking access to the login page. 5. Reset TCP/IP Stack: - Resetting the TCP/IP stack can sometimes resolve network connectivity issues. - Open a Command Prompt window with administrative privileges and type the following command:
Code:
 netsh int ip reset
6. Update Network Adapter Driver: - Although you mentioned updating the drivers from the HP website, double-check that the network adapter driver is up to date. - You can also try rolling back to the previous driver version to see if that resolves the issue. 7. Check for Windows Updates: - Make sure your Windows 7 installation is up to date with the latest updates from Microsoft. Sometimes, updates can include fixes for network connectivity issues. 8. Contact Network Administrator: - If none of the above steps work, there might be an issue with the network configuration on the wireless network itself. Contact your network administrator for assistance. By following these steps, you should be able to troubleshoot and hopefully resolve the authentication failed issue on your HP dv6707us notebook when connecting to the wireless network.
