Currently I am having an issue where certain programs open/run very slow such as itunes, disc defrag, and it reads cd-roms extraordinarily slow. It takes about 5 minutes to open then and after they are opened they continue to run very slowly. The odd thing is that not all programs run slow or even load slow, most other programs open and run fine like FF, WoW, Avira, and css. I am using windows 7 ultimate 64 and my pc consists of...

8800gt
4gb ram
core2duo E8400 3GHz
asus P5N-D MB

I did a clean install when i stinalled windows 7 (use to have windows xp) about 2 months ago and have had the issue ever since installing windows 7. I have tried to find fixes but nothing seems to have worked. I do realize that others have had similar issues with itunes, however; since the problem seems to be an issue with other programs I figured that there was a much larger issue.

Thanks in advance!

It sounds like you are experiencing performance issues with specific programs on your Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit system. Since you mentioned that this problem started after installing Windows 7 and affects multiple programs, it could be related to system configuration, settings, or hardware compatibility. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try to address the slow program performance issue: 1. Check for System Updates: - Ensure that Windows 7 is up to date with the latest updates and patches. This can help resolve compatibility issues and improve system performance. 2. Update Device Drivers: - Make sure that all your device drivers, especially for components like graphics card (8800gt) and motherboard (ASUS P5N-D)...
2. Update Device Drivers: - Make sure that all your device drivers, especially for components like graphics card (8800gt) and motherboard (ASUS P5N-D), are up to date. Outdated drivers can cause performance issues. 3. Check for Resource Usage: - Open Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc) and monitor the resource usage (CPU, memory, disk) when the programs are running slowly. Look for any spikes or high usage that could indicate a bottleneck. 4. Disk Defragmentation: - Run the Disk Defragmenter tool to optimize the performance of the hard drive. Fragmented files can slow down program loading times. 5. Check for Malware: - Perform a full system scan with antivirus software to check for any malware that could be affecting system performance. 6. Disable Startup Programs: - Disable unnecessary startup programs that may be consuming system resources and slowing down the boot process. 7. Adjust Visual Effects: - Consider adjusting the visual effects settings in Windows to improve performance. You can access these settings by right-clicking on "Computer" -> "Properties" -> "Advanced system settings" -> "Settings" under Performance. 8. Check Event Viewer: - Look for any error messages or warnings in the Event Viewer that could provide insights into the performance issues. 9. Testing RAM and Hard Drive: - Test your RAM using Windows Memory Diagnostic tool and check the health of your hard drive using tools like CrystalDiskInfo. 10. Check Program Compatibility: - Ensure that the programs experiencing issues are compatible with Windows 7 64-bit. You can try running them in compatibility mode. By following these steps, you should be able to diagnose and potentially resolve the performance issues you are facing with specific programs on your Windows 7 system. If the issue persists, further investigation into specific program settings and configurations may be necessary.
