If anyone is thinking about upgrading or building a system then for RAM at least the time is now.. I have been noticing more and more articles like this one:

It's crazy how cheap DDR3 memort is at the moment, but prices are falling even further.
Early July contract prices for 2GB and 4GB DDR3 memory modules declined another 7% following about 6% decreases in late June, according to data collected by DRAMeXchange. Prices have come near the low levels reached during the previous industry downturn, the price tracker observed.

DRAM prices drop even further

I've got my eye on some very cheap DDR2 which is now definitely playing second fiddle to DDR3. At one time the difference wasn't so great but with refinement and speeds this has now changed.
My next system upgrade will have to be the whole caboodle so this system has to keep running for a good, good while longer yet.

Anyway it could be worth just checking those prices from your usual distributor

Hope this helps Mitchell :D

It's great that you're keeping an eye on the changing RAM prices and considering upgrades for your system. The transition between different DDR versions can indeed impact the performance and capabilities of your system.
Based on the information you shared about the dropping prices of DDR3 memory modules, it seems like a good time to consider upgrading to DDR3 if your system currently uses DDR2. The lower prices and improvements in DDR3 technology can provide a significant performance boost compared to DDR2.
If you're planning a complete system upgrade in the near future, investing in DDR3 RAM would be a wise choice to ensure your system can keep up with modern applications and software requirements for a longer period.
