Codemasters has released a playable demo of Colin McRae: DiRT 2, giving you the chance to try out the DirectX 11-powered Games for Windows LIVE edition of this racing game sequel. The playable demo enables gamers to compete in two of Colin McRae: DiRT 2's events. In the Trailblazer event, players take on the ultimate test of rally car against the challenging Moroccan terrain on a point-to-point track filled with flat-out straights and hair-raising hairpins in the Mitsubishi Eclipse GT. In the second event, gamers compete in a Landrush race at the spectacular Ensenada Port circuit set in Baja California, where players go wheel-to-wheel in an 8-vehicle riotous race over lethal bumps and killer jumps in the heavy duty West Coast Choppers Stuka TT. DX11 Tested Against DX9 With Dirt 2 Demo on Thursday December 03, @01:20AM

"The PC demo for Codemasters' upcoming DirectX 11 racing title, Dirt 2, has just hit the web and is Link Removed due to 404 Error. Dirt 2 is a highly-anticipated racing sim that also happens to feature leading-edge graphic effects. In addition to a DirectX 9 code path, Dirt 2 also utilizes a number of DirectX 11 features, like hardware-tessellated dynamic water, an animated crowd and dynamic cloth effects, in addition to DirectCompute 11-accelerated high-definition ambient occlusion (HADO), full floating-point high dynamic range (HDR) lighting, and full-screen resolution post processing.

Performance-wise, DX11 didn't take its toll as much as you'd expect this early on in its adoption cycle." Bit-tech also took a look at the graphical differences, arriving at this conclusion: "You'd need a seriously keen eye and brown paper envelope full of cash from one of the creators of Dirt 2 to notice any real difference between textures in the two versions of DirectX."

Guess them folks over at Bit-tech should have gone to SPECSAVERS if they cant see the difference....it's blatently obvious on the video that DX11 has huge increase in realism over its console knuckledragging DX9 version. I'd guess it would be very easy to see the difference if you played only Dx11 for a few weeks and then got put on a DX9....it's like people that say old games looked great etc, then get them on a emulator and they are utter trash.

As I've yet to purchase a DX11 capable card I've only played the game in DX9 but was still pretty impressed with the graphics though.. I was hoping it would run in DX10 but no, it's either DX9 or 11..
