Hey guys,

Recently, I have not been able to get my computer to sleep. I used to press a button on the keyboard and it would go to sleep, this worked until a couple of days ago. When I press the button now, the monitors go black and then take me to the login screen.

I have already done a system restore to see if it was a Window Update that screwed everything up, that didn't work. I currently dual-boot with Lucid Lynx and the sleep button works fine in there, so it's definitely a windows problem.

I have not made any hardware changes since December and I haven't installed any new software since mid-January and I was able to sleep after installing it. I haven't made any changes to the power options in the control panel, other than what I've read to try and troubleshoot the problem.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks!

    • Uninstall any recently installed programs that might be causing conflicts with the sleep mode.
    []Run Power Troubleshooter:
    • Use the built-in Power troubleshooter to diagnose and fix common power-related issues.
    • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Power > Run the troubleshooter.
    [
    ]Disable Fast Startup:
    • Sometimes, Fast Startup can cause sleep mode problems. You can disable it in the Power Options.
    []Check Task Scheduler:
    • Look for any tasks that are set to wake your computer from sleep. Disable these tasks if they are present.
    [
    ]System File Checker Scan:
    • Run a System File Checker (SFC) scan to check for and repair corrupt system files.
    • Open Command Prompt as an administrator and run the command: sfc /scannow.
  2. Check Event Viewer:
    • Look for any error messages related to sleep mode in the Event Viewer. This might help identify the root cause of the issue.

      Additional Tips:

      • Ensure that your peripherals (such as a mouse or keyboard) are not set to wake the computer.
      • Consider checking for BIOS updates that might address power management issues.
      • If needed, you can perform a clean boot to troubleshoot software conflicts.
Try these steps and see if they help resolve the issue with your computer not being able to sleep properly in Windows. Let me know if you need further assistance!
