Hello everyone,

Question....

When using XP or Vista, my main desktop (this computer) would be connected directly to the internet and would show in the icon in the bottom right corner as being connected to the internet.

During my installation of upgrading to Windows 7, i seem to be connected to my wireless connection.
I have the wireless symbol in the bottom right corner and it's telling me it's not at full strength and i'm finding that really weird as I would think the wireless devices i have would, of course, be connected to the wireless, but not my desktop which is connected by wire to the internet.

Did I click the wrong thing during installing Windows 7 or what?

Thanks.
Michael.

Hello Michael, It seems like there might be a confusion regarding your network connection setup after upgrading to Windows 7. In Windows 7, the network icon in the bottom right corner can display the status of both wired and wireless connections. Here are some steps you can take to check and adjust your network connections:

Checking Network Connection Settings in Windows 7

  1. Identifying the Connection Type:
    • Windows 7 will show the network icon to represent any active network connection, whether it's wired or wireless.
    []Verifying Connection Type:
    • To confirm whether your desktop is using a wired connection, check the physical cable connection from your computer to the router.

    []Verifying Connection Type:

    ]Checking Network Status:
    • Look closely at the network icon in the system tray. It should indicate the connection status, and you can click on it to see available networks and their signal strengths.
    []Adjusting Network Priority:
    • If you want to prioritize using the wired connection over a wireless one, you can adjust the network connection priority settings in Windows.

Adjusting Network Connection Priority in Windows 7

    [
    ]Open Network and Sharing Center:
    • Go to Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center.
    []Manage Network Connections:
    • Click on "Change adapter settings" on the left side.
    [
    ]Adapting Network Priority:
    • Right-click on the network connections in the list and choose "Properties."
    • In the properties window, you can prioritize the network connections by moving them up or down in the list.

      Additional Considerations

      • It's normal for Windows 7 to display both wired and wireless connections if both are active.
      • Ensure that your wired connection is properly set up and active.
      • You can choose to disable the wireless connection if you want to exclusively use the wired connection.
By verifying your network connections and adjusting the network priority settings, you should be able to ensure that your desktop is primarily using the wired connection for internet access. If you need further assistance or clarification, feel free to ask!
