i,

All my custom themes just stopped working!

I had a problem with very slow loading of video thumbnails, so I found this solution:
* open windows start menu
* type cmd and wait for cmd.exe to appear listed under the title Programs:
* right click on cmd.exe and choose "Run as administrator"
* a command prompt opens, then type the following: SFC.EXE /SCANNOW
* hit enter and wait for Windows to check and repair its system files

It worked fine, but then I restarted the computer which the command-process told me, and when I got back to Windows the superbar was all grey (like old-style windows - no aero-functionality or anything). I found out that it is the same on ALL my themes - none of them work.

I tried to run the UX Theme Patcher once again but it didn't help.

Anyone who can tell me whats going on?? I would really appreciate it!

I am running W7 Ultimate 64bit

Solution
It seems like you are facing an issue with your custom themes after running the System File Checker (SFC) utility on your Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit system. Here are a few steps you can try to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the problem with your themes:

Troubleshooting Steps:

  1. Check Theme Settings:
    • Go to the "Control Panel" > "Appearance and Personalization" > "Personalization."
    • Check if your theme is still selected. If not, select the desired theme and see if it applies correctly.
  2. Restart Themes Service:
    • Press Windows key + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
    • Look for the "Themes" service in the list.
    • Right-click on it and select "Restart."

  3. Reinstall Theme Patcher:
    • If the UX Theme Patcher didn't help, try reinstalling it.
    • Ensure you are using a compatible version for Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit.
  4. Update Graphics Drivers:
    • Outdated or incompatible graphics drivers can also cause theme issues. Update your graphics drivers from the manufacturer's website.
  5. Check Aero Settings:
    • Ensure that Aero is enabled. Right-click on the Desktop > "Personalize" > "Window Color" > check "Enable transparency."
  6. Run Windows Update:
    • Check for any pending Windows updates. Sometimes, updates can include fixes for such issues.
  7. System Restore:
    • If nothing else works, you can try using System Restore to revert your system to a point before the theme issue started. Try these steps sequentially and see if any of them resolve the problem with your custom themes on Windows 7. If the issue persists, let me know for further assistance.
