Windows 7 Disappearing Applications

I have two pretty basic questions.
1. When I click on an application icon on the taskbar, the application briefly appears on the screen, then disappears. Is this some new feature of Windows 7 and how do I fix it so that the application remains until I tell it to go away?
2. Is there any way to increase the size of my browsing history?

1. sounds like all you did was preview the running app, simply click inside the preview to restore to full view

2. load up the browser and click Tools menu and internet options and you'll see a link on the general tab for browsing history options that brings up the customiser tool for it.
