Hello Windows Insiders! Today, we are excited to announce the release of Windows 11 Build 22621.1776 (KB5026446) to the Release Preview Channel for Windows 11, version 22H2. Here are the new features and enhancements rolling out gradually for devices installing this build:
### How to Get Updates Early:
To get these features as soon as possible, navigate to Settings > Windows Update and turn on the toggle for Get the latest updates as soon as they’re available. Please note that this toggle will not be enabled for managed devices (those managed by Windows Update for Business or WSUS).
### What's New:
Live Captions in Various Languages:
- Languages Supported: Chinese (Simplified and Traditional), French (France, Canada), German, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese (Brazil, Portugal), Spanish, Danish, English (Ireland, other English dialects), Korean.
- Enabling Live Captions: Use the WIN + Ctrl + L keyboard shortcut or the Quick Settings accessibility flyout menu. The first time you turn it on, Windows will prompt you to download the required speech recognition support. You can download additional language support from Settings > Time & Language > Language & region.
Voice Access Enhancements:
- Redesigned In-app Voice Access Command Help Page: Each command now has descriptions and examples, making it easier to find and execute commands. Accessible via Help > View all commands on the voice access bar or by voice command "what can I say?"
- Support for Additional English Dialects: English (United Kingdom), English (India), English (New Zealand), English (Canada), English (Australia).
New Text Selection and Editing Commands for Voice Access:
- A set of new commands for selecting and editing text using voice access.
System Tray Improvements:
- VPN Status Icon: A new icon (small shield) indicating you are connected to a recognized VPN profile. It will overlay in your system's accent color over the active network connection.
- Display Seconds in System Tray Clock: Enable this from Settings > Personalization > Taskbar > Taskbar behaviors.
Quick Access Features:
- Copy 2FA Codes: A new copy button in notification toasts for copying two-factor authentication codes from apps or linked phones (currently English only).
File Explorer Enhancements:
- Access Key Shortcuts: Use single keystrokes to run commands in the File Explorer context menu. To try it out, press the menu key on a file in File Explorer.
Multi-App Kiosk Mode:
- Configuration: Administrators can specify allowed apps and functionalities on a device. Ideal for multi-user scenarios like frontline workers, retail, education, and test-taking environments. Configurations include limiting access to certain settings, showing only permitted apps, and blocking specific notifications.
Live Kernel Memory Dump Collection in Task Manager:
- Usage: Gather data to troubleshoot issues while the OS continues to run. Capture a live kernel or kernel stack memory dump via Task Manager > Details > System process > Create live kernel memory dump file.
Touch Keyboard Settings Update:
- Adjusted Settings: Control the behavior of the touch keyboard when no hardware keyboard is attached. Three options include: Never, When no keyboard attached, and Always.
Content Adaptive Brightness Control (CABC):
- For Laptops and 2-in-1 Devices: Adjust CABC settings to balance battery life and display quality via Settings > System > Display > Brightness & color.
USB4 Hubs and Devices Settings Page:
- New Page: View the tree of connected USB4 hubs and devices and copy details to the clipboard under Settings > Bluetooth & devices > USB > USB4 Hubs and Devices.
Presence Sensor Privacy Settings:
- Control Sensor Access: Manage apps that can access your device’s presence sensors under Settings > Privacy & security > Presence sensing.
Improved Search Performance and Information:
- Enhanced performance for searching within Settings and an updated behavior for the print screen key to open the Snipping Tool by default.
Improvements to Multi-Tasking and Suggestion Features:
- Multitasking: Limit of 20 recent tabs shown during ALT + TAB and Snap Assist.
- Simplified Chinese IME: Improved cloud and integrated search suggestions for typing popular words using the Input Method Editor.
### Other Notable Improvements:
- OneDrive Storage Capacity Display: View total storage for all OneDrive subscriptions in Settings > Accounts.
- Various Fixes: Addressed issues with Narrator, searchindexer.exe, SMB access, password expiration notices, LSASS crashes, Storage Spaces Direct cluster reliability, Event Viewer access, PowerShell dot sourcing, Event Viewer forwarded log rendering, CPU multi-GPU selection, Modern Standby resumption errors, application callback operations, and more.
### Widget Improvements:
- New Widget Picker Experience: Visual preview of widgets before pinning, deep linking to the picker, and a link to the widgets Store collection page for discovering more apps with widgets.
