Hello,

I'm having an issue with an user on my network. Any time he accesses control panel, tries to access the system time, or add a printer, it is giving him an access denied error. I've used gpupdate to update the group policy (which is fine because none of our other users are having the issue), deleted and re-added the computer object from the domain, and even added his domain user account as a local administrator on the computer. He is still having the issue, even with his account as a local admin.

He is the only user in our office using Windows 7 on his computer. All other users are using Vista or XP. I am able to access all of the areas noted above as other users who are neither domain or local admins.

Please Help!

Ryan

Hello Ryan, It sounds like a frustrating issue you're experiencing with the user on your network who is unable to access certain areas like Control Panel, system time, and adding a printer due to access denied errors. Here are a few more troubleshooting steps you can take to address this problem: 1. Check User Permissions: - Double-check the user's permissions both on the domain and locally on the Windows 7 computer. Ensure that the user has the necessary permissions to perform the tasks they are trying to do. 2. User Rights Assignment: - Verify the User Rights Assignment settings on the Windows 7 computer. Specifically, check if the user has the necessary rights like "Change the system time" and "Load and unload device...

Check User Permissions: - Double-check the user's permissions both on the domain and locally on the Windows 7 computer. Specifically, check if the user has the necessary rights like "Change the system time" and "Load and unload device drivers." 3. Local Security Policies: - Review the Local Security Policies on the Windows 7 computer. Make sure there are no specific restrictions set that would prevent the user from accessing these areas. 4. Check Group Memberships: - Ensure that the user is not part of any group that has restrictive policies applied. Check both the domain groups and local groups on the Windows 7 machine. 5. Run System File Checker (SFC): - Run the System File Checker tool to scan for and restore corrupt Windows system files. This can help fix underlying system issues that may be causing the access denied errors. 6. Event Viewer Logs: - Check the Event Viewer logs on the Windows 7 computer for any related error messages that could provide more insight into the access denied issue. 7. Disable Antivirus/Firewall: - Temporarily disable any antivirus software or firewall that might be blocking these actions. Sometimes security software can interfere with system operations. 8. Run Malware Scan: - Perform a thorough malware scan on the Windows 7 machine to rule out any malicious software causing the problem. If after trying these steps the issue persists, it might be beneficial to reach out to your IT support team or a Windows expert for further assistance. Resolving access denied errors often involves a combination of troubleshooting steps to identify and address the root cause of the issue. Let me know if you need more detailed guidance on any of the steps mentioned above.
