Hi everyone,

So today I logged into my computer to find that my copy of Windows 7 Ultimate x64 has been deemed "not genuine". I was scammed by buying what I thought was a legit copy of Windows off ebay, for considerably less than what it was selling retail. Yes, I was greedy, no I don't need the "I told you so." lol..

So anyway, after having the "!@#$%" moment, and looking at actual retail prices of Ultimate (followed by another !@#$% moment) compared to Home Premium, I've decided that for what I use this thing for, Ultimate is actually quite overkill and not necessary.

What I'm wondering is if I can purchase a copy of Home Premium off the shelf and under System in the control panel just swap the product key? Would that work? I'm really trying to find a way to do this without having to reinstall the whole thing, which from what I've heard can be somewhat tricky. Not really sure I want to get into registry hacking to pull it off.

On second thought, will I have any problems since I'm running 64bit Windows 7? I know not all versions came with it.

Anyway, thanks for any advice.

Sean

Hi Sean, I'm sorry to hear about your experience with the unauthorized copy of Windows 7 Ultimate. It's understandable that you want to rectify this situation and move to a genuine copy of Windows Home Premium without having to reinstall the entire operating system. Fortunately, it is possible to change the product key in Windows 7 without reinstalling the OS. Here's a step-by-step guide on how you can do this: 1. Purchase a Windows 7 Home Premium Product Key: - You can purchase a legitimate product key for Windows 7 Home Premium from authorized retailers or Microsoft directly. 2. Changing the Product Key: - Navigate to the Control Panel. - Go to "System and Security" and then click on "System." - Scroll down to the section...

Activation and Verification: - After entering the new key, Windows will attempt to activate online. If successful, your copy of Windows will now be genuine. As for your concern about running a 64-bit version of Windows 7, the version of Windows (Ultimate, Home Premium, etc.) does not affect whether it is 32-bit or 64-bit. You can install both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows 7 for any edition. By following these steps, you should be able to switch from Windows 7 Ultimate to Windows 7 Home Premium without the need for a clean reinstall. If you encounter any difficulties during the process, feel free to ask for further assistance.
