Windows 7 Downloading Problems

Getting Old

New Member
I previously was using Window XP Home, till last week when I had an electrical problem
and my computer died.

Just got a new computer (Lap Top by Asus) with Windows 7 Home and trying to download from download.com the following: ccleaner, open office, malwarebytes. and M.S. Security Essentials (all free version) When I hit the download button on all of them I get a box that comes up with this is a Binery File, why is this happening and how do I get rid of it and be able to d/l normally like I use to in Win XP or do I have some sort of setting set up wrong.

Please advise as what to do,as this is getting very frustrating

Thanks

Hi,
could you provide a screenshot? It sounds like your 'ActiveX control' is not kicking in for some reason. Try going through the panel shown in the screenshot and change the active x section to display either prompt or enable.

Have you tried different links?

Ccleaner: CCleaner - Download

Open Office: OpenOffice.org - The Free and Open Productivity Suite

Malwarebytes: Malwarebytes

M.S.E.: Link Removed due to 404 Error

My guess is it's the User Account Settings.

Go to Start > Control Panel > User Accounts.

Choose change User Account Control Settings and move the slider to the middle position or choose Never Notify if you are an advanced user and have good anti-virus protection, spyware remover and any firewall you may have.
