Windows 7 Email Ticker

My email client (The Bat) is not one that I imagine too many people, if any here knows about, but my question doesn't require familiarity with it. It has an optional mail ticker that is something like a small section of a ticker tape machine for email notifications. I haven't been using it for quite a while, but recently decided to enable it.

The problem is that when I first boot up the OS, I can simply click on the ticker to open an email to read, but later, for whatever reason I can't, because it will click right through it to whatever may be behind it, so all that it is good for is just notification. I have used this client for quite a number of years, both on XP and W7, without this problem ever occurring in the past. That leaves me thinking that it is not the client, but something about the OS that has changed. Does anyone have any notions as to the crux of the problem?
