Well I've successfully installed 32Bit Windows 7 on my Compaq computer. Now when i go to install it on my custom computer that already has windows XP home on it i get the following error:

Windows has encountered problem communicating with device connecting to your computer.
Status: 0xc00000e9
Info: An unexpected I/O error has occurred.

Here are the computer specs:
Asus PQ5L Mobo
Processor: Core 2 Duo E700
Sony DVD/RW Sata Drive
Seagate Harddrive
Nvidia 9800GT Super Clocked ED.

This is what i've done to try to fix the issue myself.

Friend told me take IDE Drive from Compaq and put it in Custom built and try to load it. Well i did that and the error goes away. Only problem is it takes 15 minutes to get to selection screen of what language you want thenn once you pick it it just loads non stop. Now my friend is saying Sata Drives are a pain sometimes with installing windows.

So now what do i do? Should i try 64bit instead of 32bit? Any suggestions please thanks.

It seems like you're encountering some difficulties with installing Windows 7 on your custom computer with the specs you mentioned. The error message you're receiving, "0xc00000e9 - An unexpected I/O error has occurred," can be related to issues with hardware or storage devices. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

Troubleshooting Steps:

  1. Check Hardware Connections:
    • Ensure that all hardware components, such as the SATA cables connecting your hard drive and optical drive, are securely connected. Loose connections can sometimes cause communication errors.
    []Change SATA Settings in BIOS:
    • Enter the BIOS settings of your motherboard (ASUS P5QL).
    • Look for SATA settings and try changing the mode from AHCI to IDE (or vice versa) to see if it resolves the issue. Different modes can sometimes affect the compatibility of devices during the installation process.
    [
    ]Update BIOS and Drivers:
    • Make sure that your motherboard BIOS is up to date. Visit the ASUS support website for your motherboard model and download the latest BIOS version.
    • Update chipset drivers, especially for the SATA controller, to ensure smooth communication with the storage devices.
    []Use a Different SATA Port:
    • Try connecting your SATA drives to different SATA ports on the motherboard. Sometimes, using a different port can resolve compatibility issues.
    [
    ]64-bit vs. 32-bit Windows:
    • It's worth trying the 64-bit version of Windows 7 if your hardware supports it. The 64-bit version may have better driver support and performance optimizations for newer hardware components.
    []Check for Disk Errors:
    • Use a tool like "chkdsk" to check for any disk errors on your hard drive. You can access this tool from a Windows installation disk's command prompt.
    [
    ]Disconnect Non-Essential Devices:
    • Temporarily disconnect any unnecessary devices like external drives, printers, or other peripherals during the installation process to rule out conflicts.
  2. Install Windows Updates:
    • If you manage to install Windows successfully, ensure to install all available Windows updates to patch any known issues and improve system stability.

      Final Consideration:

    • Since you mentioned that installing an IDE drive from your Compaq into the custom-built system worked but was slow, it's possible that the issue lies with the SATA configurations. Trying different SATA settings and ports should be your initial focus. After trying these steps, if the issue persists, opting for the 64-bit version of Windows 7 may indeed be worth a try due to potential hardware compatibility improvements and better performance.
