Exciting Features and Fixes in Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 23475

Hello Windows Insiders, Today, we are excited to announce the release of Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 23475 to the Dev Channel. This build brings several new features, improvements, and updates across various aspects of Windows 11.

Key Highlights:​

  1. Modernized File Explorer Home and Address Bar
    • File Explorer is now powered by the Windows App SDK, offering a modernized Home interface and address bar powered by WinUI.
    • Recommended files for users signed into Windows with an Azure Active Directory (AAD) will be displayed as a carousel and support file thumbnails.
    • Quick Access folders, Favorites, and Recently used files have an updated WinUI experience, improving usability.
    • The address bar intelligently recognizes local vs. cloud folders, with built-in status indicators. For OneDrive users, the address bar includes OneDrive sync status and quota flyout.     []Dynamic Lighting
    • Windows now provides native control of lighting devices implementing the open HID LampArray standard.
    • Microsoft partners including Acer, ASUS, HP, HyperX, Logitech, Razer, and Twinkly have collaborated to improve RGB device and software ecosystem interoperability.
    • The Dynamic Lighting page in Settings > Personalization > Dynamic Lighting allows users to customize device behavior and lighting preferences. Feedback: File feedback in the Feedback Hub (WIN + F) under Devices and Drivers > Lighting.

    • The feature that suggests turning off toast banners if the user is not interacting with them is now available to all Windows Insiders in the Dev Channel.
  2. Unicode Emoji 15
    • Users will now be able to see, search for, and insert new emojis from the emoji panel, including more hearts, animals, and a new smiley face.

      Fixes:​

    • Taskbar & System Tray: Fixed an issue where the taskbar might not show the correct apps when using multiple desktops.
    • Search on the Taskbar: Fixed a navigation issue with the search flyout for Narrator users.
    • Start Menu: Corrected sorting for apps with the Japanese display language.
    • Notifications: Fixed an explorer.exe crash caused by certain notifications.
    • Input: Addressed an issue with the Korean touch keyboard.
    • Backup and Restore: Backups made using a restore setup will now show up in subsequent restores, and support for solid color desktop backgrounds has been added.

      Known Issues:​

    • Dev Drive: Performance might vary on different hardware.
    • File Explorer: Issues with scrolling, file loading, and thumbnails for dehydrated cloud files.
    • Search on the Taskbar: Text scaling and keyboard navigation issues in the search flyout.

      Microsoft Store Update:​

    • Install Free Apps from Search Results: Expanded rollout allowing users to install apps directly from search results.
    • New Designs for Game and Movie Cards: Improved visuals for game and movie cards to enhance browsing experience.
    • App and Game of the Day: A daily feature showcasing selected apps and games, providing a one-click install experience. Feedback: File feedback in Feedback Hub (WIN + F) under Microsoft Store.

      For Developers:​

      The latest Windows Insider SDK is available for download at aka.ms/windowsinsidersdk. SDK NuGet packages are also flighting at NuGet Gallery | WindowsSDK including:
    • .NET TFM packages for .NET apps.
    • C++ packages for Win32 headers and libraries per architecture.
    • BuildTools package for tools like MakeAppx.exe, MakePri.exe, and SignTool.exe.

      About the Dev Channel:​

      The Dev Channel has been rebooted to receive 23000 series builds, focusing on long lead work from engineers. Features in the Dev Channel may change over time and might never be released beyond Window Insiders. For details, read this blog post. Important Links:
