I am unable to persuade W10 to accept VLC media player as default music/video program. Can anybody advise me?

It's installed on Drive D, not the Windows Drive - I don't know if this makes any difference. (C:\ is a small SSD which I want to reserve for stuff which needs to load fast)

What have you tried so far?

Normally you just go into system settings (Windows key + i) > Apps > Default Apps and select VLC

Not there. It knows I've used VLC because I get a screen which says Keep using this app? and when I say yes it gives me the same screen again. (And again). Can you only associate with programs on C drive? Would that be a possible explanation?

No they can be anywhere on your system if the app is registered correctly. I would just repair VLC and it should be an option in the default app screen
