Windows 7 File renaming problem

When I try to rename a file, I right click on the current filename then left click on "rename" . But it doesn't give me enough time to go to the filename to change it. This doesn't happen all the time, but enough times to really frustrate me. At the same time, I notice that the open windows flicker. I don't change any settings and it starts working okay for a while. I am running Windows 7 on a 3 month old Sony laptop. Thanks for any help.

try to select the file then click on F2 it may work .

Try a right click instead of the left click. It is what I normally do, but in yr case, perhaps there is a mechanical problem with the mouse - this should prove it.
