I have two identical computers (Dell Studio 1555 -names: "HOME-Dell1" and "HOME-Dell2") running Windows 7 RC 7100 in a workgroup called "HOME". Both computers have only 1 user: "System Administrator" with the same password. In the sharing setting they have ON the password protected sharing. The Windows Firewall in both computers have rules to allow sharing files and printers

This is the background and the problem is when I try to access to C$ from Dell2 to Dell1 it ask me for password one time and again and again. I'm sure that I'm writing correctly the data but it ask me again and again. When I access from Dell1 to Dell2 it connects very perfectly (C$) and even never ask me for enter user and password.

I don't know what to do, please help me...

Solution
It seems like you are experiencing an issue with accessing the C$ share on "HOME-Dell1" from "HOME-Dell2" in your Windows 7 workgroup network setup. The repeated prompt for a password could be due to a variety of reasons, including authentication problems or network configuration issues. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve this issue:

Troubleshooting Steps:

  1. Confirm User Permission:
    • Make sure that the "System Administrator" user account on both computers has the necessary permissions to access shared folders.
[]Check Network Discovery and Sharing Settings:
    • Ensure that both computers have network discovery and file sharing turned on.

[]Check Network Discovery and Sharing Settings:
    • Ensure that both computers have network discovery and file sharing turned on.
    • Verify that they are on the same workgroup ("HOME").
    • Check the sharing settings to ensure they are configured correctly.
    [
    ]Verify Firewall Settings:
    • Confirm that the Windows Firewall rules on both computers allow file and printer sharing.
    • Disable the firewall temporarily to see if it resolves the issue. If it does, adjust the firewall settings accordingly.
    []Validate Password Protected Sharing:
    • Double-check the password-protected sharing settings on both computers.
    • Turn off password-protected sharing temporarily to test if access improves.
    [
]Check Computer Names and Network Paths:
    • Ensure that the computer names ("HOME-Dell1" and "HOME-Dell2") are correctly resolving on your network.
    • Try accessing the C$ share using the IP address instead of the computer name (e.g., \192.168.1.2\C$) to see if it works without repeated prompts.
    []Clear Saved Credentials:
    • Clear any saved credentials related to the C$ share on "HOME-Dell2" to ensure that the correct credentials are being entered.
    [
    ]Restart Windows Services:
    • Restart the "Server" service on both computers. This can help refresh the sharing configuration.
  2. Network Troubleshooting:
    • Perform a network reset on both computers to ensure there are no underlying network issues causing the problem.

      Additional Suggestions:

    • Update Windows 7: Ensure that both computers are running the latest updates for Windows 7 to address any known issues related to file sharing and network authentication. Try these steps and see if they help resolve the issue of repeatedly being prompted for a password when accessing the C$ share on "HOME-Dell1" from "HOME-Dell2". If the problem persists, we can explore further solutions.
