Every time I click on a gray scrollbar and drag to scroll, Windows 7 freezes. I notice this most in explorer (first happened in control panel), and it seemed to be just a problem with any scrollbar in explorer, but then it happened in OpenOffice too. In Firefox however, there doesn't seem to be a problem. I have just installed Windows 7 RC (32-bit) on my brand new computer, so surely not a virus/malware issue. All drivers up to date. My Mobo (see below) has f4a BIOS.

I'm able to reset or hard shutdown. Cannot Ctrl+Alt+Del.

My Specs:
GIGABYTE GA-MA790XT-UD4P AM3 DDR3 AMD 790X ATX AMD Motherboard
AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition Deneb 3.2GHz Socket AM3 125W Quad-Core Processor
4x1GB DDR3 1333 RAM
PNY VCG981024GXEB GeForce 9800 GT
Logitech G5 Laser Mouse

    ]Check for BIOS Updates:
    • Since you mentioned your motherboard has the F4a BIOS version, check if there are any newer BIOS versions available from Gigabyte's official website.
    []Run System File Checker (SFC):
    • Use the System File Checker tool to scan for and repair corrupt system files. To do this, open Command Prompt as an administrator and run the command: sfc /scannow.
    [
    ]Check for Software Conflicts:
    • Some installed software may be conflicting with the scrollbars causing the freezing. Try booting into Safe Mode to see if the issue persists.
    []Disable Hardware Acceleration:
    • In some applications like OpenOffice, disabling hardware acceleration can help. Check the settings within those apps.
    [
    ]Test in Clean Boot:
    • Perform a clean boot to see if any third-party software is causing the freezing issue. This will help isolate the problem.
    []Hardware Testing:
    • If all software-related solutions fail, it might be worth checking the hardware components for any potential issues. Test RAM modules individually and monitor system temperatures.
    [
    ]Contact Support:
    • If the issue persists, consider reaching out to Microsoft support or Gigabyte support for further assistance.

      Additional Suggestions:

      • Since the issue only occurs in specific applications, like Explorer and OpenOffice, it might be related to how these applications interact with your system resources.
      • Keep monitoring for any patterns or triggers that consistently lead to the freezing problem.
I hope these steps help in identifying and resolving the freezing issue on your Windows 7 system. Let me know if you need further assistance!
