The Tokyo Electric Power Co. TEPCO hopes to put a makeshift roof over the reactor 3 turbine building at the Link Removed in preparation for Typhoon Ma-on.
The roof would cover a hole caused by a hydrogen blast in March after an earthquake and tsunami hit the plant. A hose from the reactor to a barge was disconnected over fears of high waves during the storm. The barge contains relatively low-level radioactive water, according to news reports.
Typhoon Ma-on reportedly had sustained winds of 100 mph with gusts to 120 mph on July 17 and was moving north-northwest at 12 mph. The storm was expected to make landfall as a Category 1 or 2 storm near Shikoku, about 173 miles southwest of Daiichi.
Flooding conditions are possible and warnings of high surf and strong winds have been issued for areas along the storms projected path, the article said.
