Windows 7 Headphones stopped working

Hi,

I have a laptop with Windows 7 RC on it.

This morning I switched it on (in fact I think I probably just brought it out of hibernation) and I'm getting no sound out of the headphones socket.

Without headphones plugged in I get sound from the laptop speakers, when I plug them in it cuts off the laptop speakers as it should.

I've tried different sets of headphones so it's not that, also it's not that it's muted or the volumes right down etc

Just to be clear, this worked fine before this morning.

I've tried update drivers etc.

Do people think this is probably hardware related (i.e. the green jack socket's broken) or could it be software related?

In control Panel > Sound (Playback tab) I have two items showing.

1) Speakers

2) Digital Audio

Should this have a third item 'Headphones' when I plug them in or should 'Speakers' become 'Speakers/Headphones'? i.e. Should it detect when I plug the headphones in?

I can post technical info if people want but the fact it's suddenly stopped working make me think it's a dry joint or something.

Many thanks!
