okay here's my problem i have had this issue for about two months now on and off and it is irritating the crap out of me. so my internet is more or less dying I can't for a period of time connect to the internet and when i go to the network and sharing center it doesn't identify my network even though I use it on a daily basis and have used it and identified it as my home network for eight months now. if I use the windows network diagnostics it gives me either the error in the title or it says "the dns server isn't responding" i have attempted to fix that problem by giving it a dns to use and have tried to set a static ip but nothing has worked. here is the text from the command prompt when i use the command ipconfig /all

C:\Windows\system32>ipconfig /all

Note: if this is a router problem I can't change any router settings but if not please don't blame it on that. also despite what my profile says i am running windows 7

Solution
okay i found a fix that seems to have worked thus far so i took the ip configuration the ipv4 adress, default gateway and such from the xp computer i use on the same network and put it in the windows seven computer that has the problem and thus far it has worked for about 24 hours
is this because there isn't a default gateway on my ethernet adapter for local area connection?
