The hibernation attempt in my MAC book Air running Windows 7 with SP1, by pressing the power button gently, works ok for 70% time and puts PC into hibernation. But on 30% occasions, only screen goes off, but computer remains ON with my being able to change caps lock on and off. This forces me to hard boot the computer.

Help would be greatly appreciated

When you experience intermittent issues with hibernation on your MacBook Air running Windows 7, where sometimes the screen goes off but the computer remains on, it can be frustrating. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve this issue: 1. Power Management Settings: - Check your power management settings to ensure that hibernation is configured correctly. You can adjust these settings under Power Options in the Control Panel. 2. Driver Updates: - Ensure that all your system drivers, especially those related to power management (like chipset and graphics drivers), are up to date. Update BIOS/EFI Firmware: - Check if there are any BIOS or EFI firmware updates available for your MacBook Air. Updating the firmware can sometimes resolve power-related issues. 4. Check Event Viewer: - Look for any error messages or warnings related to power management in the Event Viewer logs. This might provide more details on why hibernation is failing intermittently. 5. Disk Cleanup: - Perform a disk cleanup to ensure that there is enough free space on your hard drive for hibernation to work properly. 6. Power Plan Settings: - Review and configure advanced power settings in your chosen power plan. Ensure that the settings are optimized for hibernation. 7. Command Line Troubleshooting: - Run Command Prompt as an administrator and run the command powercfg -h off to disable hibernation, then run powercfg -h on to re-enable it. This can sometimes resolve hibernation issues. 8. Check for Software Conflicts: - Uninstall any recently installed programs that may be causing conflicts with hibernation. Test hibernation after removing suspicious software. 9. Advanced Power Options: - In the Power Options menu, check the settings under "Change advanced power settings" to ensure that there are no conflicting settings that may affect hibernation. By following these steps, you may be able to diagnose and potentially fix the intermittent issue with hibernation on your MacBook Air running Windows 7.
