I am trying to set up home group and switched the password to something easier to remember. This has now set up a cycle where I type the new password in the other computer in the change homegroup setting page and the Join now dialogue box is removed , however the join now dialogue box reappers in the oringinal computer that I changed the password on.

The dialogue box with the join now burtton states "windows detected another homegroupon your network. With a home group, you can share files ........ to devices."

I have continually typed the password on box compuers and one computer always reverts to the join now box. How do I solve this problem

Troubleshooting Steps for HomeGroup Password Cycling Issue:

  1. Ensure Both Computers Are on the Same Network:
    • Confirm that both computers are connected to the same network. HomeGroup functionality requires all devices to be on the same network to function properly.
[]Check HomeGroup Password on Both Computers:
    • Ensure that you are using the same HomeGroup password on both computers. If you changed the password, make sure it is correctly entered on all devices.

    ]Leave the HomeGroup and Re-Join:
    • On the computer facing the issue, try leaving the HomeGroup and then rejoining it with the updated password. Here's how you can do it:
      • Leave HomeGroup:
      • Go to Control Panel -> Network and Sharing Center -> HomeGroup.
      • Click on "Leave the HomeGroup."
      • Re-Join HomeGroup:
      • Follow the prompts to join the HomeGroup using the updated password.
    []Restart HomeGroup Services:
    • Restarting the HomeGroup services on both computers can sometimes resolve connectivity issues. You can do this by:
      • Press Win + R, type services.msc, and hit Enter.
      • Locate and restart the following services: "HomeGroup Listener" and "HomeGroup Provider."
    [
    ]Check Network Sharing Options:
    • Make sure that network discovery and file sharing are enabled on both computers. This ensures that HomeGroup sharing functions smoothly.
    []Network Adapter Settings:
    • Ensure that your network adapter settings are configured correctly. Check for any conflicts or issues with the network adapters on the computers.
    [
    ]Update Windows and Drivers:
    • Ensure that both computers have the latest Windows updates installed, and the network drivers are up to date.
  2. Reset HomeGroup Password:
    • If the issue persists, you may consider resetting the HomeGroup password entirely and setting up a new HomeGroup.

      Additional Tips:

      • Firewall and Antivirus: Ensure that firewall and antivirus settings are not blocking HomeGroup functionality.
      • Network Profile: Confirm that the network profile on both computers is set to "Home" or "Work" (not Public).
      • User Account Control (UAC): Make sure UAC settings are not interfering with HomeGroup operations.
By following these steps, you should be able to troubleshoot and resolve the cycling issue with the HomeGroup password. Let me know if you need further assistance or if you encounter any specific errors during this process.
