Hi

If the following is possible.. how do I do it ?

On PC1 I have two users A (Admin) and B (Standard User) and Folder X
On PC2 I have one user C (admin)

PC1 and PC2 are on the same LAN

I want Folder X to be accessible to A and C but not B...

????

Solution
To achieve the desired setup where Folder X is accessible to users A and C but not to user B across two PCs (PC1 and PC2) on the same Local Area Network (LAN), you can follow these steps:

Step 1: Sharing Folder X on PC1

  1. Share Folder X:
    • Log in to PC1 as user A (Admin).
    • Right-click on Folder X to be shared, select "Properties," and go to the "Sharing" tab.
    • Click on "Share" and choose the user C (admin) from PC2 to share the folder with. Provide appropriate permissions to the user C for that folder.

Step 2: Setting Up User Permissions

    []Update User Permissions:
    • On PC1, go to the folder properties and set the appropriate permissions for users:

      • User A (Admin): Full Control
      • User B (Standard User): No access
      [
    • ]Since you want user C on PC2 to have access, ensure user C has appropriate permissions.

      Step 3: Network Access Control

    []Control Access via Network:
    • Ensure that PC1 and PC2 are on the same LAN.
    • If needed, adjust network sharing settings to allow users A and C to access shared folders on PC1.

      Step 4: Accessing Folder X

    [
    ]Access the Shared Folder:
    • On PC1, user A and C should now be able to access Folder X with the specified permissions.
    • User B should not have access to Folder X.

      Additional Considerations:

      • Firewall Settings: Ensure that network sharing is allowed through the firewall on both PCs.
      • User Authentication: Make sure that user credentials are correctly entered when accessing shared folders.
      • Permissions Consistency: Check that user permissions are consistent across both PCs to prevent any access issues.
By following these steps, you can configure Folder X to be accessible to users A and C while restricting access for user B across PCs on the same LAN.
