1) Surf the web for hours and get nowhere, not least when you try the Microsoft Windows 8 forum and they advise you to cut and paste a registry command which doesn't work. At least not for me.
2) Put your drive's SATA lead in a different socket on the motherboard. You may have to experiment. But it will work!!!
