OK i have read other post and what i did i can see the files on XP compter belonging to win 7 but not able to find printer which are connected to xp on the win 7.
First off, I had all printers connected to win7 which also has the router still. DO I need to remove the printers on win 7? My husband and kids have lap tops which we are all on a network, for some reason was set up on my husbands laptop. I hooked up the old xp pro in another room which is connect by cable, not wireless. The xp pro now has the printers to it. I can see the win 7 on the xp network but not able to access the printers on win 7 and can not see the xp comp. at all.
I did add the guest acct on the xp now not sure where to go from here. Basicly all i want the xp is to operate the printers and software not operational on win 7.
One other question I do have a password on my router (previously several neighbor were accessing It. Will the network be accessable with out a password to the router?
Thanks for your help in advance and i look forward to hearing from you.

It sounds like you are trying to set up network printing from a Windows 7 computer to printers connected to an XP computer. Here are the steps you can follow to troubleshoot and possibly resolve the issue:

Step 1: Check Printer Sharing Settings

  1. On Windows 7 (Computer with Printers):
    • Make sure the printers are shared on the XP computer.
    • Go to Control Panel ➜ Devices and Printers.
    • Right-click on the printer you want to share, then select Printer Properties.
    • Go to the Sharing tab and check "Share this printer."

Step 2: Network Discovery and File Sharing Settings

    [
    ]On XP and Windows 7:
    • Ensure both computers are in the same workgroup. You can check and change the workgroup in the System Properties settings.

Step 4: Firewall and Antivirus Software

  2. On Windows 7:
    • Temporarily disable the firewall and antivirus software to see if they are blocking the network communication.

Step 5: Accessing XP Computer from Windows 7

  1. On Windows 7:
    • Try accessing the XP computer directly by typing its IP address in Windows Explorer. Example: \\192.168.1.2

      Regarding Router Password:

    • It is highly recommended to have a password set on your router to secure your network. Without a password, your network is vulnerable to unauthorized access and potential security risks.

      Further Troubleshooting:

If you still face issues, you can try the following:
      • Run the Network Troubleshooter on both computers.
      • Check the Event Viewer for any network-related errors.
      • Ensure the XP computer has the appropriate sharing permissions set.
By following these steps, you should be able to set up network printing from your XP computer to printers connected to your Windows 7 computer. Let me know if you need further assistance!
