Windows Vista I cannot change the default search function

Hi. I have Vista home premium on a newly purchased HP desktop. I am unable to change the defaults on the search bar (top righthand corner) from "Live search" to "Google". I have tried both the drop-down beside the search box Tools -> Internet options-> Change search defaults. It only allows me to set Google as the default for this session. I have even completely removed live search as a search engin, but everytime I restart my computer, live search shows up as the default, and google is listed below that.

How can I get Explorer to remember to safe Google as my default after setting it as the default?

I tried to do the same as you did and it worked for me even after a reboot. The only difference between us may be the fact that I'm using IE8 and I presume your using IE7? I'm unsure why it refuses to work for IE7 but suggest you try the IE8 release candidate which can be found here:
