Hello,

I currently have 2 HD, one 160Gb SATA and this 80Gb IDE. I was using both normally, but since yesterday I can't access my IDE HD. The unit is gone in My Computer, as you can see in this SS:

But when I access Disk Management, there's the disc, labelled as "Disco 0":

How can I make it work again? I have some data in it which I'd like to recover, and I have Windows XP installed in it to use in some ocasions.

Thanks!

Solution
It seems like your IDE hard drive is not showing up in My Computer, but it is detected in Disk Management. This issue can occur due to various reasons such as a corrupted file system, partition table errors, or drive letter conflicts. To troubleshoot and potentially fix this issue, you can try the following steps:

Assign a Drive Letter to the IDE Hard Drive

  1. Right-click on the "Disco 0" in Disk Management.
  2. Select "Change Drive Letter and Paths."
  3. Click on "Add."
  4. Choose a new drive letter for the IDE hard drive.
  5. Click "OK" and see if the drive now appears in My Computer.

Check File System and Drive Health

  6. Right-click on the IDE hard drive in Disk Management.

  7. Select "Properties" and then go to the "Tools" tab.
  8. Click on "Check Now" under Error-checking to scan for file system errors.
  9. Consider using third-party tools like CrystalDiskInfo to check the health status of the drive.

    Update IDE Controller Drivers

  10. Press the Windows key + R to open the Run dialog.
  11. Type "devmgmt.msc" and hit Enter to open Device Manager.
  12. Expand the "IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers" section.
  13. Right-click on the IDE controller and select "Update driver."

    Check IDE Drive Connection

  14. Ensure that the IDE drive is correctly connected.
  15. Try using a different IDE cable or connecting the drive to a different IDE port on the motherboard.

    Data Recovery Options

If you can't access the data on the IDE drive through these methods, consider using data recovery software like Recuva, MiniTool Power Data Recovery, or EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard. These tools can help recover data from inaccessible drives. After trying these steps, the drive should hopefully reappear in My Computer, allowing you to access your data. Let me know if you encounter any issues or need further assistance!
