It sounds like you're encountering some frustrating issues after installing Windows 7 (64-bit). Let's address each problem step by step:

Issue 1: MSI Installer Hangs During Installation

When the MSI installer hangs during installations of programs like Java Runtime Environment or Office 2003, it can be due to various reasons. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot this:
  1. Check System Resources: Ensure that your system has enough resources (CPU, RAM) available to complete the installation. Close any unnecessary programs before starting the installation.

  2. Check Event Viewer: Check the Windows Event Viewer for any error messages related to the MSI installation process. This can give you more insight into what might be causing the hang.
  3. Run MSI Installer in Safe Mode: Restart your computer in Safe Mode and try running the MSI installer. Sometimes third-party applications or services can interfere with the installation process.
  4. Update Windows: Make sure your Windows 7 installation is up to date with the latest updates and patches. Sometimes, system updates can resolve issues with the MSI installer.
  5. Check MSI Logs: The MSI installer usually creates log files that can help diagnose the issue. You can locate these logs in %Temp% folder or under C:\Windows\Temp.

    Issue 2: Shutdown/Restart Problem

If you're unable to shut down or restart your system properly, there are a few things you can try:
  6. Check for Windows Updates: Ensure that your Windows 7 system is fully updated. Some updates might address issues related to system shutdown.
  7. Check Device Drivers: Outdated or incompatible device drivers can sometimes cause shutdown problems. Make sure all your drivers are up to date.
  8. Power Settings: Check your Power Options in Control Panel to see if any settings are preventing proper shutdown.
  9. Run System File Checker (SFC): Open Command Prompt as an administrator and run the command sfc /scannow to scan and repair any corrupted system files.
  10. Check for Malware: Run a full system scan with an antivirus program to ensure that your system is not infected with malware. Try these steps and see if they help resolve the issues you're facing. If the problems persist, feel free to provide more details for further assistance.
