Windows 7 Internal Wireless Network Very Slow Under Windows 7

Greetings all. I have two laptops running build 7100 (one 64 bit, one 32 bit) and a wireless d-link WBR1310 router. I have shares on an external USB 3.5 HD with movies and data that I used to run and access no problem under Windows XP. Now under Windows 7 my transfer speeds are VERY slow, the slowest I seem to get is 24 kb/s and that is way too slow .... I do not want to cross over cable as I should be able to get decent speeds over wireless.

I have turned off IPv6 and several other tweaks located elsewhere but I am at a loss.

Suggestions please!
