Windows 7 Is it possible to hide desktop icons?

Is there is a way to hide all desktop icons so that only the wallpaper shows until I either click the desktop or something like that to make them show up. Not like a permanent setting that will always keep them hidden.

Thank you for your help.

Right click on the desktop > View > uncheck 'Show desktop icons'.

You could do as I do - store all your shortcuts in appropriate folders and load them into the taskbar then set the taskbar to be hidden. I have mine at the top of the desktop and it is hidden until I move the mouse to the top as in attached snip.
